Our Nation is on Our Shoulders

"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security." The Declaration of Independence

Do we fully grasp the concept of this famous line from our nation's call to freedom? Americans bemoan the government's unconstitutional practices but the reality is that we chose the leaders of the past and will choose the future's. It is the men WE chose that are causing oppression and stealing our freedoms.

We have been given the great privilege of electing those who will rule over us. Are we exercising our freedoms as well as choosing wisely? It begins with our responsibility to understand the purpose of government, to understand the meaning of our constitution, and then to fervently pray and act accordingly.

"The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first." Jefferson

"We learn from the Declaration that the purposes of government are the protections of our rights, our safety, and our happiness...these goods depend on certain qualities in us that can be trusted with power and on the ascendance of those abilities as we exercise power...In political terms, the operation of self-interest helps to lay the basis for the kind of liberal society established in all the major laws following from the american revolution. for there to be representative government, there must be an independent society to be represented. What happens in this society is private, not public, and yet it has profound public significance." From The Founders' Key by Larry P. Arnn

It is our duty to study our nation's history. For we cannot know where we are headed or what pitfalls are to be avoided without a thorough knowledge of where we have been. History informs us, instructs us and prepares us, which is why a concerted effort has been made to discredit much of true history, as it obstructs socialism's objectives.

Without a mooring, we drift into dangerous territory. We must cling to our mooring, embrace our privilege and hold on to what we love.

Well said. And when we study our nation's history we will discover that the key to America's success lies in our Christian heritage so long fought for by our founding fathers. We must return to our biblical foundations of law and government, for then (and only then) we will see the blessing of God upon our nation. Here is a copy of an oration I delivered on this very topic at a speech contest last year. Thought you might enjoy reading it. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bfoBVkeV-Qt7oXm-_hIif6PsfYffZn9Li_QcdZBO1vc/edit?hl=en_US&pli=1

Thanks so much for this great post!
